Become Smokefree  - you can do it!

Making the decision to stop smoking in your teens is the best thing you can do for your health and your money.  It can be difficult to stop smoking. However with support from family, friends and services you can do it!

The steps below may help you to make a successful attempt.

Step 1. Plan to Quit

Think about why you want to quit. Knowing your reasons can help you stay motivated.

Make a plan. Think about how you will fight cravings, avoid triggers and deal with withdrawal.

Avoid your triggers. If you know that certain people, feelings or situations cause you to smoke, then try to stay away from them.

Stay positive. Try to keep a positive mindset and focus on the present - and don’t forget to reward yourself for remaining Smokefree.

Ask for help. You don’t have to do it alone. Tell your friends and family that you’re quitting and will need their support.

Step 2. Manage your Social Life

If you want to quit but your friends don’t, it could make it more difficult, but you can do it. Plan for those times you will be out with them. What could you do instead when they are smoking? It helps to remember you are friends not because of smoking but far more than that. Smoking doesn’t define you. Your friends enjoy being with you because of who you are, not because you smoke. Spend time with people who make you feel good about yourself and want you to succeed.

When you start your Smokefree journey, you may want to avoid social situations where there will be smokers for a short time. It could be helpful to talk to your friends and ask how they can support you during those difficult times. Over time the difficult times will get easier.

Step 3. Smoking Risks

There are no safe ways to smoke tobacco.
There are over 7,000 chemicals, 250 more dangerous ones and  more than 70 chemicals linked to cancer.
